Write to support@getmodernguardian.com. Tell us your device and the app version (Settings → About), and what you expected to happen. Please don't send your backup file, serial numbers or details of what you own; we never need them.

Common questions

A rank isn't unlocking.

A rank is met only when every one of its requirements passes, and every rank below it too. Open Progress, expand the rank and look for the requirements without a check. Tap one to go straight to where it's logged: the drill, the loadout, the plan or the team profile.

The team profile requirement won't pass.

Every member needs a name, an age and a biological sex. Members missing one show a "Needs" tag on the Team screen, and the member form marks the fields as Required until they're filled.

Sync isn't moving between my devices.

Sign every device into the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive on, then turn on Settings → Sync with iCloud on each one. The first sync can take a minute. On iPhone, bring the app to the front; iOS holds uploads while it is in the background.

How do I move to a new phone?

Turn on iCloud sync, or export a backup from Settings → Data and import it on the new device. Importing replaces everything on that device with the file's contents.

A barcode wasn't found.

Product lookup online must be on in Settings. The open databases don't know every product; turning on Also search UPCitemdb finds more batteries, tools and household goods. You can always add the item by hand, and the next scan of that barcode will find it.

Lift from background doesn't work.

It runs on the device and needs a clear photo of one item, or one person standing full length, against a plain background. Try more light and less clutter behind the subject.

I forgot my backup passphrase.

We can't recover it. The file is encrypted so that only the passphrase opens it.

A note on the content

Modern Guardian is an educational readiness tracker. It does not teach weapon handling, tactics, medicine or law. Get proper training from qualified instructors, and follow the laws where you live.
